Many people are curious, why only a bunch of water can cut work pieces?Water cutting is a technique that uses high-pressure water knives. It is less affected by the material. Under the control of the computer, the work piece can be cut at will.
Principle of waterjet cutting: Waterjet cutting ability comes from two aspects: one is high-pressure water, the other is added to the water abrasive. Tap water first enters the water purification system and then pumps the purified water to the low-pressure water area. It is then pressurized by the piston and enters the intensifier pump. At this point, the water is compressed back and forth by the booster to form high-pressure water. At this point, the water pressure can reach 400Mpa or higher. Despite the high water pressure, the high pressure water is unstable due to the re-movement of the piston. Therefore, water from the booster must first enter the accumulator to stabilize the water pressure, then into the nozzle, and then spew out at a speed of nearly kilometer/s.
Orifice can be as small as 0.05mm in diameter and are usually made of carbide or sapphire. The inner wall of the orifice should be smooth and flat and able to withstand the pressure of 1700Mpa.
In addition to high pressure, abrasives must be added to the water to cut hard materials. Abrasives are usually 30-150 silica or garnet sands. Some also add polymers to increase the viscosity of the water, making the sprayed water look like a thin line.
High pressure and abrasiveness make it not a problem for water to cut diamonds.
Although water cutting is very powerful, it is still not very popular. So what hinders the development of waterjet cutting?
The first reason is that as environmental protection increases, water resources become more and more valuable, which indirectly leads to increased cost-cutting. With the same cutting requirements, there are more low-cost cutters to choose from, which has led to a shrinking waterjet market.
The second is that the cutting direction and angle of water cutting is not as flexible as other cutting, i.e. the degree of freedom is low. Although it can be developed, it is expensive.
The third is the high price of waterjet cutting equipment, many parts are easy to wear, so replacement parts are also a big problem, many small and medium-sized enterprises can not afford.
